by Henning Stahlberg last modified Aug 17, 2012 11:26 AM

Workshop Program

The hand-on workshop on the processing of images from cryo-electron microscopy of 2D crystals of membrane proteins (electron crystallography) will provide the theoretical background and practical applications in advanced image processing algorithms. The workshop will use the 2dx software system, which is based on the MRC programs. The workshop is aimed at beginning to advanced users of electron crystallography.

The Lectures will be held in Hörsaal 2 (HS2) and the practicals will take place in the computer room cherry. They are situated on the bottom floor of the Pharmazentrum.

On Friday we will have a tour in our lab, which has the following address:

C-CINA (Center for Cellular Imaging and NanoAnalytics)
Biozentrum, University Basel
WRO-1058
Mattenstrasse 26
CH-4058 Basel
Switzerland

Geographically, the lab is located in the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE).

Travel:

Travel to and from the workshop at the Pharmazentrum has to be organized by the participants. The closest airport is Euroairpor Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg from which you can take a bus and arrive within 10 minutes in the city. If you arrive at Zürich Airport it is an hour train ride from Basel. We would recommend you take the train then. You find the schedule and ticket prices on the SBB website.

Lodging:

Lodging is not included in the registration fee. We recommend the following hostels:

Rooms may also be shared.

Registration:

Registration is closed.

Even though we will provide access to a computer (iMac) for each student during the practicals, we recommend that participants bring their own portable computer with them (OSX or Linux), onto which we can install the image processing software and practical datasets at the beginning of the workshop. Alternatively, participants are invited to bring a portable hard-drive (USB 2.0), which can be connected to the provided iMacs during the workshops.
